The US FDA Informs About Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities in Medical Devices with Bluetooth Low Energy

• The US FDA issued a warning to patients, HCPs and medical devices manufacturers about potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities in BLE technology. The FDA mentioned the products that could be impacted which include pacemakers, glucose monitors and ultrasound devices
• The US FDA referred to the vulnerabilities as “SweynTooth”, which allows the unauthorized users to wirelessly crash the device or stop it from working.
• The FDA recommends that medical device manufacturers should stay alert for cybersecurity vulnerabilities and proactively participate in addressing them as well as providing mitigation strategies
